Santa Caterina is located in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, just 12 kilometers from Bormio. The favorable location, the climate and an advanced snowmaking system guarantees perfect slopes from late November to April. For sure, the best known is the Deborah Compagnoni, inaugurated in 2005 on the occasion of the World Ski Championships. The track is equipped with a modern lighting system: strong emotions are guaranteed at night too!
Santa Caterina Valfurva is well known not only for its ski area but also for its history, which has always followed the fate of the “Magnifica Terra”, the small ancient republic of Bormio who was able to maintain and increase its business over the centuries.
Starting with the seventeenth century. Santa Caterina Valfurva became a popular thermal resort thanks to the ferruginous waters discovered by Don Baldassare Bellotti. The sources are two: one rich in sulfur, and the other one with “akua forta”, rich in iron and with a sour and spicy taste.
