PINTURAULT WINS THE ALPINE COMBINED IN BORMIO FILL SECOND AND JANSRUD THIRD

The French Alexis Pinturault wins the Alpine Combined in Bormio and gets nearer to the Austrian Marcel Hirscher in the Overall World Cup standings (Hirscher preferred to have a few days off before the marathon of races leading to Winter Olympics in PyeongChang). Of course he won with a great slalom race, after a thirteen place in DH (+1″65 from Dominik Paris). Seems a lot, but not for those who can count on the automatisms of this particular specialty, which is a dance between the narrow poles.

Italy is still happy because after yesterday’s DH victory by Dominik Paris, the podium today is for Peter Fill (2nd +42/100), third in the DH race: he defended the position and improved it, also thanks to the disqualification of the Austrian Kriechmayr (out near the finish line) and Paris, who looked like having the victory within reach after a great DH and was out near the finish line. But you can’t invent slalom, a severe training is needed. Third place for the Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud (+45/100) – he threw away his chance in DH when he accused a gap of almost a second (97/100) from Paris. Also worth mentioning the 13th place by Riccardo Tonetti, previous 31st place in DH.

The two days in Bormio see a come back of the “Azzurri” towards a January of great classics such as Wengen, Kitzbuehel and Garmisch, before the Olympic adventure. The Stelvio proved once again to be a slope of very high level and its come back to the World Cup circuit is a winning one. There’s a great team work behind it all, from Società Impianti di Bormio to the many volunteers who have been decisive in overcoming a heavy snowfall to make it possible to race. However, the races in Bormio don’t end here. Tomorrow the final part of the Stelvio will host the Italian Men’s and Women’s slalom championships with over 100 members (5pm the first manche, 20.45pm the second manche on Raisport)
