On a “two days training in Santa Caterina” Reichelt is the fastest

The training of the Italian, Austrian and Canadian athletes in Santa Caterina on the track Deborah Compagnoni in Santa Caterina are over. Tuesday, December 29 the town will host the fourth Men’s DH World Cup race. This morning the athletes could count on the entire track, from Cresta Sobretta (2750 m) to the finish area (1745 m). A track that all athletes consider as very challenging.

“A track for women? Really?” that’s what said Dominik Paris. For the Austrian Hannes Reichelt it is technically and physically very demanding “It leaves you out of breath.” Yes, the Deborah Compagnoni – with the works carried out in the summer – has now higher technical features which are also enhanced by the work of the FIS responsible Hannes Trinkl.

The speed has significantly increased: from 1’53” of last Decembe’s official trainings to this morning’s 1’48’’06 by Hannes Reichelt, the fastest to reach the finish line. On Sunday the athletes skied on the upper part of the track to leave room to tourists on the bottom part. And yesterday this bottom part in the woods was particularly complex. “There are many bumps and very difficult bends, such as the Fank area where the race could be decisive. A change of direction to the right that leads to a counter-slope where you can lose a lot of speed in the last tear before the finish line” said Christof Innerhofer.

The athletes will be back in Santa Caterina on December 26 for the first training, taking pace on December 27. Yesterday the girls of the Italian speed team arrived in Santa Caterina for a three days super-G training.
