Paris-Reichelt’s (Italy-Austria’s) first place in Bormio. What an exciting DH race!

Incredible things happen on Stelvio. The crowded stands are full of fans, they scream and shout and you can really feel the excitement. It all ends with an equal first, and four athletes crossing the finish line separated by only 0″02: a nothing! For the first half and hour the kind of Italy that loves sports dreams a lot. It dreams of a triplet. Three Italians on the podium! Unbelievable! Reality will be different. But it will be equally unpredictable and surprising.

Dominik Paris and Austrian racer Hannes Reichelt are the winners with 1’58 “62. This is the first World Cup victory for the 23-years-old racer from South Tyrol. He has made a perfect race, pushing from the first to the last metre. He has faced Reichelt’s attack, who has also got his first downhill victory here in Bormio. But Reichelt had already won during the Finals in 2008: he surprised all and won the SG cup beating Didier Cuche, who started with what looked like an insurmountable advantage.

The Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal is behind Paris and Reichelt with 0.01 and is the current World Cup leader. +0″02 for Austrian racer Klaus Kroll who is the outgoing champion of DH cup.

The Stelvio slope confirms that the Italians are in good shape, and it already emerged during the past two training days. The “Azzurri” team has worked well, they are ready, they’re competitive, they want to win and shine. The good races of the other guys prove that too; an amazing Werner Heel is 6th after a spectacular run, Christof Innerhofer is 9th with +0″67 and Peter Fill is11th.

– QUOTES -

HANNES REICHELT

Dopo la gara “I felt confident. I had to change a few things in the past few days but today’s victory, wow, it’s so wonderful! I won the SG Finals here in 2008 and love the slope.”
Press Conference “This DH race is special for me and this victory is very important. I wasn’t expecting the podium. I was really surprised. I started the season in a bad way but I did technique training on Christmas time and looks like it’s OK now.”

DOMINIK PARIS

AKSEL LUND SVINDAL

Press Conference: Bormio is a classic. If you win in Bormio there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to win elsewhere. I’m 3rd and I’m happy with that. The snow and the slope were perfect today. I made mistakes in the last part, it’s always a very tough race. Yesterday I decided to rest and I did the right thing because it led to today’s result.”

KLAUS KROELL

Dopo la gara: “I can’t believe it..I was confident. I lost the line…not funny.”

WERNER HEEL

Aspettare in partenza?
