The Cima Viola is very appreciated by many outdoor enthusiasts compared to other peaks in this mountain range. Not only because of its beauty it is given that much attention, but also because of the manifold routes and ascent possibilities which lead to its peak. The climb across the glacier of its north face or the very demanding ascent via the rocky south side as well as the easier route to the peak via the westface give the climbing of this mountain a diversity. On the peak of the Cima Viola has been installed, in 1962 a small, metallic cross, which carries the so called "peak-booklet".
Description of the Hike:
From the Rifugio Dosdè, you reach, crossing the following morains, the foot of the vertical face of the mountain, seen from the west-peak of the Viola-range. Ascending a snowfield, the left side of this vertical face is reached. Via a rocky path you get to the a steep gap, which leads to a remarkable mountain crest.
Ongoing, the path leads further uphill to the mountains so called "shoulder", which brings you to the foot of the little glacier of the peak's face. Straight on, ascending this glacier (take good care at the crevasse), to get to the gap between the Cima Viola and its western pre-peak (called as well Piz Canton by Bormio's ihabitants). From this point you reach the peak via a rocky and snowy path.
