Sobretta Valley - Bocca di Profa
Starting point: Albergo/Rifugio Paradiso – Plaghera/Santa Caterina (1.963 m)
Difference in altitude: 700 metres
Best time of year: June to October
Duration: 3 – 3,5 hours
Description of the Hike:
From the Hotel Paradiso (Plaghera – Santa Caterina) it goes into north-west direction, on an easy to walk on footpath, passing the lodges of Plaghera up tho the tree-line. You cross the wide valley of the river Sclanera and reach the lodges of the same name (typical alpine huts). Uphill into south-west direction, you go on to "I Molerbi", now on a sometimes difficult path. From "I Molerbi" you get to the lonesome Val Sobretta. Walking on further on an easy footpath through the valley, you get to the Bocca di Profa (2.663 m). From there you enjoy a beautiful view of the Valdisotto and the Valle di Presura.
This hike is also very interesting regarding geomorphologic particularities and other characteristics of the landscape of this still isolated situated Val Sobretta. This is, e.g. the put together morains of Molerbi, antique remainders of the glaciers from the quaternary periode. Another characteristic of this valley is, other than the relics of the ice age, a big, striped marble formations, in which falls the little river after having run through a gorge.
