Description of the Hike:
Starting in Fumero, it goes uphill, along the former military road on the right side of the valley. After about 15 minutes you will enjoy a great view to the alpine lodges "Baite di Pontela", which are located in the wood and on the right side of the river. This is for sure even one of the most interesting and beautiful locations of this valley.
At the end of the fir-wood, after about 40 minutes, you get to a path which brings you to a plateau with the houses of S. Bernardo (1.851 m), hosting a little church dating from the 17th century, which is dedicated to the Saint Bernardo and which adapts harmonically with the nature. The ground of this plateau consits of peat, which is an interesting aspect concerning nature conservation. Many small and mostly very old alpine lodges are spread out on the plateau. Reaching the lodges from "Il Merlo" the road crosses the little river and begins to to ascend on the other side. Passing the crossing to Campobugatone (2.024 m), the path leads uphill to another plateau, where there are the lodges of "Clevaccio" (2.142 m, walking duration about 2 hours from Fumero). We suggest to have a short rest up here, because you have a wonderful view to the hiked up path as well as to the impressing surrounding mountains. In the west the Corno Boero (2.878 m), is seen, on its right side the Punta Pollore (2.933 m), the Corno di Profa (3.078 m) and directly above the actual location you see the south side of the Sobretta (3.296 m) with its little glacier. In the south-west there is the Gava di Becchi (2.822 m), in the south the Cima di Savoretta (3.096 m), also with its little surrounding glaciers and in the south-east the Monte Gavia (3.223 m).
The path now ascends to the east, passing the lodges of Tegiacce, after which it gets narrower, passing the old, went to ruin huts from Grasso. Shortly after this place, you reach the wide Passo dell'Alpe (2.461 m, walking duration 3–4 Shours from Fumero). Here you still can visit the trenches from the First World War (1914–18). The view now opens into the direction of Valfurva and Valle del Gavia whith the rising Pizzo Tresero.
